Kampala, Uganda- 20th May 2026 – Quality Chemical Industries Limited (Qcil), Uganda’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturer, has today announced the launch of Hydroxyurea, a life-saving medication used in the management of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). This initiative marks a significant milestone in improving access to affordable and effective treatment for thousands of Ugandans affected by the condition.

The launch comes at a time when sickle cell disease remains a major public health challenge in Uganda, with an estimated 20,000 babies born with the condition each year. Speaking at the launch, Ajay Kumar Pal, the Chief Executive Officer at Quality Chemical Industries Limited, emphasised the company’s commitment to addressing critical healthcare needs in Uganda and the region.
